Ashley McIntosh
I, Ashley Jade McIntosh, have never felt comfortable. I am a mixed media artist, currently working in photography, writing, and sculpture. I explore human connection, lack of communication, and a questioning of love by sharing my memories of childhood trauma and abusive relationships. Reflecting on the ways that people process and hold onto trauma, Sometimes You Scare Me is a collection of time capsules that analyze my most influential relationships. This project takes the form of four handheld vessels that are intended to be interacted with. Each container is dedicated to a different person in my life and holds items such as photographs, handwritten letters, cards, and small memorabilia. The use of a box as a vessel for these memories is used to start a conversation on my experience with emotional containment. In this process of reflection, I claim space to validate my experiences and emotions in my ongoing attempt to heal and be heard within my community.
