Letters to the Lost

At the age of 19, I experienced two huge losses when my uncle died a few weeks after I was raped. I turned to my art as a way to process these traumatic events, inspiring me to create “Letters to the Lost” in order to help others heal as well. For the project, I ask people that I care about to write letters to someone or something that they’ve lost and I use different editing techniques with archival family footage to represent the emotional content of each letter, using recordings of the letters being read as the audio. For the installation, the videos play on two CRT TV’s next to a family album that I placed the letters and other relative personal items (handmade cards, photographs, lockets) into.
