New Testament

New Testament’ focuses on objectified aspects of myself photographically and sculpturally. Reframing religious materials and aesthetics in order to create representation for myself as a Queer Latinx man. Using myself as a site of aesthetic conflict and reinvention through photography I have deified myself, becoming a god in my own right…

This project began with hollowing out the bible, a grueling 10 hour process that consisted of me cutting out a rectangle-sized hole in the book preserving each page I removed. In hollowing out this book and inserting my own photographs I have recontextualized the source material. Using the bible as a frame to exhibit my own existence I’ve created my own living monument, one that is dedicated to worthwhile representations of my personhood, reframing a book whose true sin was denouncing me in the first place.
