Natasha Peterson
I photograph people because I am endlessly fascinated by how one chooses to express themselves. I began by photographing the body as a whole, and its relationship to fashion, makeup, and other temporary adornments. After observing communities, specifically queer presenting individuals, my work graduated from the outward expressions to understanding what makes us emotionally unique. Turning my camera on others perpetuated my desire to research and understand this further. With my understanding coming from personal experiences, I turn the camera on myself and perform with the truths I’ve harbored. Drawing inspiration from the baroque style of painting and religious iconography, my work transcends when it’s as an artist rather than just a photographer.
