Whilst living in New York, I always observed the Hasidic community with great curiosity. The neighborhoods inhabited by this society felt like a village of its own within a bustling city.

More often than not, only the superficial trademarks of the Hasidim are acknowledged by the external world without delving deeper. In this project, I strived to humanize specific individuals of the community and break through the insularity attached to this group of people.

In Orthodox Jewish culture, there is a strict unwritten rule not to iconize yourself in any way. Having no connections in the community to go off of, the hardest part of this project was without a doubt gaining trust and finding people who were willing to be photographed.

I am a documentary photographer from London. I like to think my work captures the human experience and tells stories no matter how big or small.
