Joy does not always resemble a person with a smile on their face, having the time of their life. I’ve always thought of myself as an optimistic person, a joy seeker, someone who unquestionably believes in the goodness of people and looks for the best in each situation. This project searches for those beautiful delicate moments that often go unnoticed, specifically within the lives of the people that I love the most. With this project I’ve begun to ask what is joy, and where does it hide? How can we find it, and hold on to it in the small, non defining moments of our lives and the lives of the people we hold closest to us?

Libby Edwards is an artist and photographer from San Diego, California, whose work centers around the feeling of joy, whether it be editorial or documentary-style photography. She aims to capture the authenticity of her subject’s personality in each photograph.
