Bella Cole

In the series “Growing Pains,” I use fear and memory-overwhelm as driving forces to create images that are deliberate encounters with the shifting landscapes, stagnant yet tenuous objects, and decaying spaces of my childhood. Each image is my attempt to find some solace in the melancholia that this place brings me. Exhibited as a series of Fujitrans prints mounted onto lightboxes and encased in handmade frames that resemble the physical structure of the homes that I grew up in, this work evokes the physical and psychic discomfort of  looking, mirroring the emotional journey of revisiting the past.
