“new transcendentalisms” utilizes northeast American natural landscapes and wildlife to create
a new visual language in opposition to traditions of infiltration. Employing the surveilling technologies of
motion sensor trail cameras developed for hunting and Google Street View, this project sets out to
challenge the avariciousness of late capitalism as well as photographic conventions of control and
documentation. Reappropriating the images produced by these mechanisms, the work proposes an alternative mode of viewership that refuses the satisfaction of both operator and spectator.
Chloe Abidi is an interdisciplinary artist living in New York.
