Elle Andrews

“The Female Nude as an Active Image” is a photographic exploration of the mythological figure
Venus. This project reimagines the pacified and historicized body of Venus by giving her the agency and
consent to be liberated. Researching the fantastical ways the goddess has been portrayed and posed, I
explore the connection Venus has to water and nature. Photographing close female friends allows me to reflect on my own feelings and experiences of being a woman in the arts, a field in which women still aren’t always taken seriously. In this I hope to suggest the diversity of female expression.

Elle Andrews was born in 2001 in Long Beach, California. Elle explores themes of female embodiment
and experience in the worlds of social media and branding.
