The idea of coupling mainly exists in an amorous state. Through a self-seeking lens, “Significant Others” aims to see the “queer” in one’s relationship to themselves. The images presented use double exposures to acknowledge the endogamy within contemporary queer culture. Ambiguity is expressed through the proximity of the Self to a collective; the narrative is subject to each viewer’s projection. The acts of capturing and collecting are fetishistic, similar to acts of intimacy. Self-regard is inevitable when choosing partnerships, friendships, and companions.
