Truman Schaffner
Presumptions and stereotypes adhere to narratives of childhood adoption. A specific otherness is felt when adjacent to the spaces of people of color, men, women, and whiteness, when one’s perception of self is separated from its physical reflection. “PROXIMITY” is a video installation born out of an investigation of identity, racial authenticity, and the determining role others play in our sense of self.
Truman Schaffner is a visual artist based in Harlem, New York City.
