Garments and their stories hold memories, pieces of history, and lives attached to them. The
Club
explores clothing as an archive as it moves through time and space, passed down through generations on the artist’s maternal side. This body of work reflects the material and familial bonds between the artist, her mother Julie Baltimore, grandmother Elyse Gordon (Lessee), and great-grandmother Edna Cohen. Growing up, all four generations lived close to one another in Brooklyn and called themselves The Club. This project is a self-portrait of the artist’s family, representing their clothing, family history, and deep connection.
