God Is From Harlem is an intimate visual narrative documenting Harlem rapper Fergie Baby as he navigates the complexities of rising stardom. Through a mix of analog and digital photography, this project captures both the high energy and introspective moments of his journey-onstage, in the studio, and in everyday life. Rooted in a deep connection to hip-hop, the project prioritizes authenticity, emotion, and bold visual storytelling. This work serves as both a testament to Harlem’s cultural legacy and a reflection on ambition, identity, and the artistry within hip-hop. 

Ashley Thompson is a Houston-born photographer whose work explores hip-hop culture through documentary and portraiture. She is currently based in and working out of New York City.
