Char Horton
The Art of What is Forgotten and the Beauty & Pain of Growing
Up explores the complicated emotions the artist feels towards childhood. This project combines family footage, footage from their first camera, and personal monologues. This longform video piece follows a journey of not only Horton’s past, but also shows the evolution of how they view these past memories. The artist used to have a very somber and painful relationship with childhood; however, as they have continued working through these emotions and approach life after everything they have ever known, Horton has become more at peace with the past.
Char Horton is a 23 year-old Brooklyn based artist from Marin County, California. Horton’s photo and video work often covers themes of mental illness, queerness, and growing pains.
