Flooded Fabric combines fabric design and photography into a single harmonious medium that captures water in its purest form. Photographs of water as it flows at different times of the day are applied to fabric through an alternative darkroom process called cyanotype, which is naturally blue.
Water’s inherent unpredictability challenges the concept of pattern, setting the fabric apart from anything mechanically reproduced. This collection of fabric seizes the beauty of the complex subject by capturing the way it abstracts and manipulates light while also becoming something that has practical design application.
Charlotte Ihlanfeldt is an American multimedia artist who is currently exploring fabric-based design in tandem with photography.
