Sometimes You Wake Up and The Sky is Blue, a photo series, explores reconnection and closure following the gift of sobriety for the artist’s family. The use of portraiture and observational photography creates a dialogue that represents the push and pull of grappling with a present crowded with the complications of the past. Relationships between the images encourage multiple facets: moments of unification, the rebuilding of family bonds, and personal acceptance. Photographs utilize themes of ritualistic gestures of care and symbolic objects to further investigate our understanding of this new, peaceful steadiness.
