Jersey E Benjamin

This installation, entitled Oubli (Forget) started as a process of Benjamin re-imagining her thoughts and has evolved into an intricately layered sculptural installation-a small portal reflecting her neural network.

It is an accumulation of Benjamin’s haunting recollections, ruminating thoughts, and the hypergraphia that resulted over time. Construed via a mobile made of photos, lithography, graffiti, illustration, and writing, she reconstructs and reconfigures her memory into something tangible. This work represents memory’s intrusiveness, its confusion, its obsessiveness, its blur, and its negativity. Benjamin explores her inability to forget and let go.

Jersey Benjamin is a mixed-media artist from Chicago. Her work combines her psychological, artistic, and literary knowledge and spans a multitude of categories and mediums-from world-building and fictional narratives to social and family constructs.
