L.J. Ripley

Serenity and chaos, the sacred and the grotesque, coexist in a delicate tension. Ripley’s work is not meant to document subculture, but rather to offer a theatrical depiction that explores the boundaries between reality and fiction. These portraits merge this fictional world with the objectivity we exist in, evoking magical realism. Inspired by the raw intensity of punk, the performativity of Vaudeville, and the dreamlike quality of the Surrealist movement, Ripley builds a visual diary that navigates myth and the elusive nature of freedom.

L.J. Ripley is a New York-based artist concerned with how we perceive beauty within hostility and tension. Her work uses motifs of impermanence, deterioration, mystery, and existentialism.
