Qiao Fang
I Am Rooted, But I Flow uses digital color photography to draw on Fang’s experience as an international student migrating between three countries. The series consists of 20 images, including portraits, still life, and natural landscapes. It examines the relationship between nature and humanity and compares human migration with plants adapting to new environments.
Through the metaphor of symbiosis between humans and plants, Fang explores the complex relationship between migration, roots, and the sense of belonging. Whether it’s a plant’s roots or human feet and thoughts, both constantly seek the soil where they can grow.
Qiao (Joanna) Fang is a Chinese photographer based in New York and Shenzhen.
