Ryan Chen

Hailing from the suburbs of Dallas, Texas, Chen has always neglected the overflowing things in his possession‚–only cherishing these items until they’ve lost function or utility. He is greedy for the newest and trendiest items he can get his hands on. Finally, in his last years of university, Chen began to recognize how unhealthy and detrimental these habits were to himself, others, and the world around him. This project, Drowning in Velvet, is a critique of the obsessive nature of consumption. 

Ryan Chen is a photographer from Dallas, Texas, with Taiwanese immigrant parents. He explores the fundamentals of his habits, passions, and where his roots lie-whether it’s in the context of fashion, sports, or landscapes.
