Skyler Hinkley

Directly recording the screen of her computer, Skyler Hinkley appropriates live surveillance footage from cameras around the world to create this three-channel video piece. The work offers an alternative approach to the binary separation between the natural and digital worlds. By deliberately isolating moments of human connection and natural beauty-while embracing the discomfort of degraded digital material-Hinkley proposes that the self need not be divided between the ‘authentic’ natural world and the ‘corrupted’ digital one. This work makes way for an evolved kinship with technology, where reality is embraced as both technological and organic, all at once.
