Zoe Carlaftes

Always Coming Back is an ongoing search for the lost desire to make images. When one forces oneself to continue to photograph, can the distant passion reveal itself through the work? Carlaftes takes photographs weekly, followed by a close analysis after processing. Through this practice, she uses photography as its own body of language to uncover where—and more importantly, why-this passion may have gone astray. She notes patterns and visual signifiers in the work that may seem trivial at first glance; however, upon further investigation, they let slip a sense of familiarity and self, like a letter waiting to be read. 

Zoe Carlaftes was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, and is currently working and exploring photography in New York City.
