Vertical Intimacies is a photo documentary project exploring the evolution of pole dancing, a form of expression once associated with strip clubs that is now a mainstream fitness hobby. The images document people who have integrated pole dancing into their lives by bringing it into their homes. For these dancers, “pole” is an act of empowerment and creative expression as well as a core part of who they are. Vertical Intimacies joins broader conversations around the stigmas of pole dancing, aiming to confront the ongoing negative stereotypes that many of these skilled performers face.
