Please Let Me Remember examines the relationship between the artist and her grandmother as she witnesses her grandmother’s failing health and gradual decline. Through cyanotypes, portraiture, and landscape photography, the artist uncovers the interlinkage of grief and memory in her exploration of her Filipina-American identity. Catholic symbolism acts as an anchor that ties childhood experiences to the daily routine of the artist’s grandmother. Captured between the suburbs of California’s Central Valley and the intimacy of the artist’s own apartment in New York City, the photographs explore the complexities of the artist’s family’s diaspora and the notion of generational loss.
