Cyber Pessimism is a photographic reflection on the artist’s identity and the reality he lives in. Using the visual language of Cyberpunk, Lo portrays the experience of a generation living in an age of overstimulation and anxiety. This experience is common for young adults on the island of Taiwan, who deal with high-level academic stress, poor economic conditions, and the possibility of their homes being threatened. This anxiety and anger goes publicly unacknowledged, yet it reveals itself in declining birth rates and rising rates of self-harm in young adults. This project is the artist’s way of expressing his anger and anxiety towards this world.
