Kate Hada

Hāna Hou traces dance as armor, survival, and homecoming. Through analog color photography, Van Dyke Brown prints on wood, and sound, the artist tells the story of how Polynesian dance saved her life. The wooden prints give the performance images body and permanence, while the brown tones lend them an earthy, timeless energy. The color images hold the story, the preparation, and the return to dance. At the center is Ori Tahiti and Hula, which shaped the artist’s sense of self and became her sanctuary. Dance is armor, a ritual of strength for moving through life.

Kate Hada (b. 2003) is a photographer and interdisciplinary artist based in Los Angeles and New York. Previous shows include LBMA Art Auction 75 and Parsons Paris X NYC Exchange.
