Lindsey Rogers

Inspired by her family’s multigenerational legacy as morticians, Fertile Ground depicts the recurrence of trauma within a lineage as hauntedness. Rogers examines a cycle of domestic abuse through portraiture, reconstructed memory, and metaphor. Signifiers of care and creation are recontextualized as inherited wounds. The artist explores how men are taught to suppress their feelings at an early age, identifying patriarchy as a catalyst for violence within the home. Generational trauma is not bound by the physical plane or mortality, but instead manifests as a visceral experience of anxiety.
