in from the desire field
The photographs in from the desire field are an extension of a larger personal practice; working to challenge the notions of understanding and to close the gap between distance and desire. The title comes from Natalie Diaz’s 1979 poem in which the relationship between anxiety and desire is addressed. She writes, “Let me call my anxiety, desire / Let me call it a garden”. Through the use of color as a means of graphic representation, narration, and immersion, I ask myself the questions: what would it look like if I were to photograph without the intention of a solution? and what would it look like if I was able to stop treating myself as a problem to be solved?
