The Way Flowers Looked The First Time I Saw Them

The Way Flowers Looked The First Time I Saw Them, a photography book, intends to capture the ways that the subtle and gentle qualities of human nature reflect patterns of the natural world. How does focusing on the qualities of the everyday impact larger societal patterns? This book is an arena for objective, universal truths to be represented through personal, intimate moments. The sequencing of images creates a conversation between the natural world and our own internal feelings and processes. If we pay attention to our emotional selves, we notice that we experience emotional seasons, small deaths and rebirths, periods of growth and periods of hibernation. This project creates a relationship between portraits and images of nature that allow mirrored parallels between our inner selves and nature’s constant change.
